Special Events

  • Social Studies Content Support for Ninth Grade Global Teachers
    January 18

Dr. John Langdon, professor of history at Le Moyne College and member of the NYSED Content Advisory Panel, will continue to help participants explore and prioritize the Key Ideas in the 9th Grade Framework, and find sources that are essential for students' understanding of the concepts and connections of Global History. Participants will have the opportunity to share information, resources and instructional practices. If you attended the first session on November 2, this will be a great opportunity to come back and continue to dig into the Social Studies Framework for 9th grade, but even if you didn’t attend the first session it will be well worth your time. Space is limited, so register today!

Ongoing Events

  • Social Studies Leadership Network
    February 2, and June 1

This network will meet to serve as a conduit for information, learning and discussion about the New York State K-12 Social Studies Framework, assessments, and best practices in Social Studies classrooms. Social Studies teacher leaders and administrators will work collaboratively to expand their own knowledge and expertise, and, in turn, provide leadership to their own schools and districts. Participants will receive resources for in-district turnkey purposes and share their expertise and ideas.

  • Social Studies Collaboratives (formerly Curriculum Follow-Up Sessions)
    February 15, April 26, and May 31

If you participated in the Summer 2015 or Summer 2016 Social Studies Curriculum Work (5th-8th grade from last summer, K-4th and 9th-12th this summer), think about joining us for an upcoming session. Participants may sign up for a single session or for multiple sessions, as desired. This is an opportunity to continue the work on developing units and lessons that we started last year.

    Best of History Websites

    Ed Tech Logo

Best of History Web Sites by edteachteacher provide quick and searchable access to over 1200 history-related sites that have been reviewed for quality and accuracy. The resources cover both world and US history sites and are arranged by topic and era. There are also links to K-12 history lesson plans, teacher guides, activities, games, quizzes, and more. There is a lot to sift through if you’re just browsing, but if you are looking for something specific there is a search function. Be aware that some of the links could be broken, but there are plenty to choose from so it shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Dependable (and Absolutely) Dogged Shameless Plug of the Month: The Social Studies Blog

It is only one of the excellent blogs that are posted by the staff of OCM BOCES Instructional Support. Check out all of the blogs here. The Social Studies blog is posted here.
