Bias in Observations and EvaluationsAn analysis of hundreds and hundreds of teacher observations and evaluation scoring indicates pervasive bias in our scoring. In essence: observations of classes of high-achieving students are regularly rated higher than classes with lower performing students. This reminds us of the importance of being aware of our biases. Social CapitalThe business capital model, including the present evaluation model, doesn’t result in gains in student learning. An emphasis on social capital, however, does make a difference.
